Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

In a world in which teen books are a dime a dozen, it’s never easy to find a worthwhile read, especially not one about vampires. Because of this, Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series comes as a pleasant surprise. The complex weave of Moroi, Strigoi, Dhampir, and Alchemist created a surprisingly believable portrait of vampire life. This, mixed with layers of ancient mythology, made the Vampire Academy books some of the best Vampire books published recently.

It comes as no surprise then that the new Richelle Mead book and companion to the Vampire Academy series, Bloolines, is just as well done. This time focusing in on Sydney, the alchemist, Bloodlines simultaneously answers questions leftover from the Vampire Academy books while opening up entirely new possibilities for Mead’s vampire world.

Although to some who may know the Vampire Academy books well, Bloodlines may seem slightly predictable, it is certainly still an enjoyable read. It is still a fascinating new Mead book. I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in urban fantasy.
